ONC names EHR certifier

September 17, 2010

InfoGard, San Luis Obispo, Calif., has been named by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology as the third ONC-authorized testing and certification body as provided under the electronic health-record subsidy program of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Last month, ONC named the not-for-profit Certification Commission for Health Information Technology, Chicago, and the for-profit Drummond Group, Austin, Texas, as the first two organizations accepted to test and certify EHR systems.

InfoGard, founded in 1993, has tested and validated the security of IT products and networks for approval and use by the federal government, the U.S. Postal Service and various credit-card companies, according to the company's website.
